Caper earning 1st AOM at the 2003 FSSA National Specialty

Caper won Best Of Opposite Sex (BOS) at her very first FSSA national specialty appearance in 2000, repeated the win in 2001, took 2002 off to be a mom, was awarded the 2003 1st AOM and followed this with a record-breaking third BOS win in 2004. In Canada, Caper completed her championship by earning all of her points with group placements, and it is believed that she is the first female Field Spaniel to do so.

In the summer of 2006 we decided to train Caper for her Rally Novice (RN) title. All of her life nothing more was expected of Caper than to "look pretty" and to be a good mom. So her outlook on Rally was "I don't DO "sit" or "down" or any of that other obedient DOG stuff. With the help and encouragement of Carla Bunkelman (Blackbrier Field Spaniels) who patiently and persistently kept after me to work with Caper, we earned our RN in four attempts (it takes three to earn the RN title-the one time we NQ'd was "handler error") in August-September 2006 (at the age of nine!!!). I am very proud of Caper's efforts put forth to earn that title.

Life just isn't the same without her Pollyanna attitude. However, her great-granddaughter Velvet is following in her foot prints admirably. She is eerily very much like Caper.
